About the CD,
Magickal Life: Fiona has teamed up again with Paul Searles (co-writer/producer of Fiona’s 2008 ground breaking solo album ‘WitchWeb’) to release her second album, ‘Magickal Life: Guided Meditations and Spells for Positive Change’. This spoken word album offers the public an opportunity to experience an up close and personal guided session with Fiona. Fiona guides you step by step through ancient Witchcraft rituals for attracting love, enhancing love or saving relationships. She also offers you meditations to create sacred space, enhance your psychic intuition and increase your personal power. “In creating this audio guide to transforming your life with magick and meditation, I addressed the most frequent issues and concerns people ask me – love, self esteem, courage and success. So many people say to me, ‘I really want to change my life and I am drawn to spells and rituals, but I am scared of doing it wrong!’ With this album I guarantee you will get it right and reap the rewards! And I am thrilled Paul could join me in creating his sublime sonic soundscapes that complement and enhance the magickal efficiency of every track – ‘Magickal Life’ is truly a relaxing and revelatory listening experience.” - FIONA HORNE |

Didjeridoo Master by David Blanasi $30 |
People call David Blanasi 'Bomb' - because he
plays the didjeridu very hard, straight out. No mucking around ! Didjeridu virtuoso and master instrument craftsman David Blanasi is a Wugularr elder from the Mialli language group. " My father used to cut didjeridus for me as a young child...little ones...and he used to play all the time. Sometimes we'd be travelling all the time from Arnhem Land, from Kindirri and I used to carry it with me. If I lost it, I would have to go back and get it". Respected for his skills and wide repetoire with the didjeridu, accompanying ceremonial song and dance, David's knowledge and responsibilites have kept him in demand throughout Arnhem Land for much of his life. From the sixties through to the present day, he has travelled and performed extensively around the world. Backspin: A Six Degrees Ten Year Anniversary Project Various Artists $24 |
World music purists
have never been happy with the Six Degrees label's pan-cultural
mash-ups or the fact that western rock has a global influence.
They'll take no comfort when India's MIDivil PunditZ lay their
digitized-Bollywood sound on Led Zeppelin's "Four Sticks," nor
respite when Spain's Ojos de Brujo conduct a flamenco romp
through Bob Marley's "Get Up Stand Up." It's all part of the
concept of Backspin: A Six Degrees 10 Year Anniversary
Project. Each of these artists, all associated with Six
Degrees, covers a song that had an influence on them. Like Jimi
Hendrix with "All Along the Watchtower," the best make the song
so personal that you forget the original. And speaking of
Hendrix, psychedelia fares well on Backspin, with a cover
of the guitarist's "If 6 was 9" by Rara Avis (from Desert
Dwellers). A nine-minute compression of Pink Floyd's "Echoes" by
Banco de Gaia is a jewel of hallucinogenic electronica. Singer
Azam Ali and Niyaz are probably the only ones who could take the
Cure's "Love Song" and make it sound like a Rumi love poem.
Dzihan & Kamien's soul-jazz take on Herbie Hancock's "Rockit" is
actually more jazz-driven than the original electro-funk hit,
with some Herbie Mann-style solo flute driving the track. Few
transformations are as radical as the Real Tuesday Weld's
deadpan, Leonard Cohenesque read of ABBA's "The Day Before You
Came." Yet even the relatively faithful versions reveal new
dimensions in these works, like Karsh Kale's ominous stomp on
the Police's "Spirits in the Material World." Shrift's
ethereally intoxicated drift through the Beach Boys' "God Only
Knows" makes it sound even more heavenly than the original. But
most artists here completely reinvent their songs. Backspin
isn't meant to be profound, but it does underscore the
global-village ethos that has brought the music of the world as
close as the click of a key.
TRACKS: 1.Spirits in the Material World - Karsh Kale 2.Rockit - Dzihan & Kamien 3.Get Carter Theme - Bombay Dub Orchestra 4.Love Song - Niyaz 5.If 6 Was 9 - Rara Avis 6.Four Sticks - Midival Punditz 7.Get up Stand Up - Ojos De Brujo 8.Bed's Too Big Without You, The - Los Mocosos 9.Day Before You Came, The - The Real Tuesday Weld 10.God Only Knows - Shrift 11.Echoes - Banco De Gaia 12.Julia - MNO |

Orientissime Thione Seck $28 |
Throughout Europe Thione Seck is considered the voice of
Senegal, his reputation exceeding even that of his compatriot and the
world's most well-known African singer Youssou N'Dour. Lead singer for Orchestra Baobab for 3 years during their '70s heyday, Thione has also appeared with Africando and released a number of acclaimed albums over the last 3 decades. The connection between Senegalese and Cuban music is well-known with the singer himself having played a central role in the action. However this 2005 release Orientissime is a bold step that takes the listener in the opposite direction, fusing the majesty of an Egyptian orchestra, oud and singers and musicians from India. There is an obvious link between the traditional Senegalese and Arabic music and Thione himself represents the Mourid movement, an African branch of Islam. |

It’s very exciting to realize that at age 55 my best years as a guitarist and musician are still ahead of me.
