Didjeridoo Master by David Blanasi $30 |
People call David Blanasi 'Bomb' - because he
plays the didjeridu very hard, straight out. No mucking around ! Didjeridu virtuoso and master instrument craftsman David Blanasi is a Wugularr elder from the Mialli language group. He was born around 1930 and as a young boy lived in his traditional country at Kindirri in central Arnhem Land. David remembers learning to play the didjeridu at an early age. " My father used to cut didjeridus for me as a young child...little ones...and he used to play all the time. Sometimes we'd be travelling all the time from Arnhem Land, from Kindirri and I used to carry it with me. If I lost it, I would have to go back and get it". Respected for his skills and wide repetoire with the didjeridu, accompanying ceremonial song and dance, David's knowledge and responsibilites have kept him in demand throughout Arnhem Land for much of his life. From the sixties through to the present day, he has travelled and performed extensively around the world. He now leads his traditional dance and performance company, 'The White Cockatoo Performing Group' |

Traditional Songman of the Dreamtime by Nyalgodi Scotty Martin New in digipak $25 |
Possibly the most important cultural statement ever encompassed on an Australian compact disc. This is a spiritual musical journey providing living evidence of the direct relationship of indigenous people and the land. Nyalgodi, or Scotty Martin, lives in the rugged and remote Kimberley region of West Australia where he was born some time around the Second World War. Scotty Martin is his ‘whitefella’ or ‘armara’ (meaning non-Ngarinyin tribe) name. He is the pre-eminent living composer in the contemporary world of the Ngarinyin, Wunambal and Worrorra peoples of the north Kimberley. Nyalgodi Scotty Martin is a custodian of the law and culture of the Wandjina and the famous Gwion cave art.
